چکیده

The Traveling Tournament Problem with Predefined Venues (TTPPV) is a single round robin variant of the Traveling Tournament Problem, in which the venue of each game to be played is known beforehand. We propose an Iterated Local Search (ILS) heuristic for solving real-size instances of the TTPPV, based on two types of moves. Initial solutions are derived from canonical 1-factorizations of the tournament graph or of its subgraphs. Computational results show that the new ILS heuristic performs much better than heuristics based on integer programming and improves the best known solutions for benchmark instances. We also show that commonly used neighborhoods in the sport scheduling literature are not connected in the case of single round robin tournaments.

The traveling tournament problem with predefined venues

Sports scheduling is a very attractive application area not only because of the interesting mathematical structures of the problems, but also due to their importance in practice and to the big business that sports have become. In this paper, we introduce the Traveling Tournament Problem with Predefined Venues, which consists in scheduling a compact single round robin tournament with a predefine...

Abordagens baseadas em coloração de arestas para problemas de programação de tabelas esportivas

Sport scheduling is a trending research topic in operations research. Local search heuristics are among the most effective methods to construct schedules. Prior studies have noted the existance of non-connectivity in neighborhoods used in local search heuristics for single round-robin tournament scheduling. This non-connectivity affects the performance of local search heuristics. It is well-kno...

An Algorithm for the Bipartite Linear Distance Traveling Tournament Problem

I apply a linear distance heuristic to the n-team Bipartite Traveling Tournament problem, which treats the problem as if the n teams are located on a straight line, reducing the number of variables. I then generate an algorithm to solve this variation of the problem. I then compare the results of my algorithm with results presented in previous papers. My algorithm does not present an optimal so...

Maximizing breaks and bounding solutions to the mirrored traveling tournament problem

We investigate the relation between two aspects of round robin tournament scheduling problems: breaks and distances. The distance minimization problem and the breaks maximization problem are equivalent when the distance between every pair of teams is equal to 1. We show how to construct schedules with a maximum number of breaks for some tournament types. The connection between breaks maximizati...

New Heuristic Algorithms for Solving Single-Vehicle and Multi-Vehicle Generalized Traveling Salesman Problems (GTSP)

Among numerous NP-hard problems, the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) has been one of the most explored, yet unknown one. Even a minor modification changes the problem’s status, calling for a different solution. The Generalized Traveling Salesman Problem (GTSP)expands the TSP to a much more complicated form, replacing single nodes with a group or cluster of nodes, where the objective is to fi...
